Since Feb. 1, 2020, a number of rail construction companies have been working together under the name DB Bahnbaugruppe GmbH. This company is a 100 percent subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn AG. Their field of activity includes all work related to railroad infrastructure. This includes both planning and construction but especially also the maintenance of railroad infrastructure. More than 3,000 employees work on this, spread across 40 sites throughout Germany. The construction group has a fleet of 400 vehicles for its work. This consists in part of former locomotives of the Deutsche Bahn that were taken over after they were set aside. Thus, the DB Bahnbau Gruppe also uses machines of the 218 series. For smaller operations, however, the use of the small locomotive type 335 suffices. The machine, also known as the Köf III, was thus given a new, varied work area. The good old three-axle conversion wagons were converted into mobile workshops so that certain work could also be carried out on the road. Together with other former wagons of DB Cargo they now stand out because of their bright yellow color and thus bring variety and fun to the model railroad. Especially the shunting movements that are always required in railroad construction give a lot of fun here.
